Public Transportation

The San Francisco Bay Area is linked together through an extensive network of buses, ferries and light rail systems that will take you to practically any destination of your choice throughout the Bay Area.

San Francisco MUNI

San Francisco Municipal–Railway – operates a mass transit system throughout the city, 24 hours a day. Adult fare US $1.50 cable cars US $5, seniors/students .50¢, one–ride fare with transfer good for two changes on all other MUNI lines within the time indicated on transfer. Children under 5 free. Exact change is required.

Important: Be sure to have your receipt, transfer or pass to show as proof of purchase. Routes are too numerous to enable us to include a fully efficient map. Bus shelters feature route maps and times. MUNI Route Street Maps are for sale at most drugstores, book stores, and Hallidie Plaza Info Center. Regular MUNI Metro service runs 6 a.m.–midnight. Owl Service motorcoaches replaces L, N, 5, 14, 22, 24, 38, 90 and 91 lines from 1– 5 a.m.

MUNI Passports are available in the following designations: US $11...1–Day Passport; US $18...3–Day Passport ; US $24...7–Day Passport Call +1-415–673–MUNI for route information and to confirm prices.
